Treasury Department

The Treasury Department ensures that municipal revenues are collected and handled properly and that bills are paid. The Treasurer and other staff in the finance area are responsible for the following matters and report regularly to Council on the state of municipal finances.

  • Maintaining internal controls that ensure the proper use of money

Final Tax Bills - 2024

Final tax bills and the always informative newsletter were mailed in July 2024. Please call the office at 519-941-1007 for any tax inquiries. The 2024 final tax bill installment due dates are August 22 and November 28, 2024.

The Township of Amaranth is pleased to present the Asset Management Plan as prepared by R. J. Burnside and Associates Ltd. with assistance of funding received under the Ontario Community Infrastructure Funding Program. The asset management strategy provides a long term operating and capital forecast for asset related costs, indicating the requirements for maintaining, rehabilitating, replacing/disposing and expanding the Township's assets.

Ontario Regulation 397/11, Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plans, requires all broader public sector organizations, including municipalities, to report on their annual energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in designated buildings/facilities by July 1 annually and to develop and implement a 5 year energy conservation and demand management plan.

Water Financial Plan

Council meeting held August 12, 2020 passed the following resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

Council hereby approves the 2020 water rates.

FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:

The Township of Amaranth Water Financial Plan prepared by Watson & Associates Economists Ltd.  dated June 29, 2020 be approved;

Notice of availability of the Financial Plan be advertised;

The Financial Plan, the Council Resolution approving the Financial Plan, and the Water Rate Study underpinning the Financial Plan be submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (O.Reg. 453/07, Section 3(1) (6); and

The Council Resolution approving the Financial Plan be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment, Satisfying the requirements under the Safe Water Act. (S.D.W.S. Section 32 (5) 2ii)

Water Rate Study

BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council approve 2015 water rates as shown in Chapter 6, Watson and Associates report dated May 11, 2015;

THAT Council consider transitioning the water capital reserve into a reserve fund;

THAT Council direct staff to consider the results of the rate study in future amendments to the Township's asset management plan.

The Township is now offering pre-authorized payment plans for property taxes. Please see the link below for more information and the enrollment form.

Tax Pre-Authorized Payment Plan

Tax payments may be made by any of the following methods:

  • In person at the Township of Amaranth Municipal Office located at 374028 6th Line Amaranth ON, between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Payments are accepted by cheque (current or postdated) and cash. We do not currently accept any bank cards (debit or credit cards) at our office. A drop box is located outside of the office for after-hours cheque payments. Please do not leave cash payments in the drop box. The drop box is checked daily during business hours.
  • At all Chartered Banks through your mortgage, personal teller service, telephone or internet banking. Please note that any related banking fees are the responsibility of the taxpayer.
  • By mailing a cheque (current or postdated before the due date) with the payment stub(s). If you require a receipt, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
  • Internet Banking is available for your convenience through most Bank websites. Setup “Amaranth, Township of” as your Payee with the full 19 digit roll number as your account number (no spaces or punctuation). Please allow 3-4 business days for the office to receive your payment.
  • Pre-Authorized Payment Plan is available in 2 forms; Due Date and Monthly Plans - Please see link above for more information.  

Late Payment Charges

  • To avoid interest charges, payments must be received by the Township of Amaranth on or before the due date. A charge of 1.25% will be added on the first day of each calendar month following default and on the first day of each calendar month thereafter, as long as the taxes remain unpaid. Monthly interest charges will be imposed on any unpaid taxes from previous years. Interest rates are levied by the municipal bylaw pursuant to section 345 of the Municipal Act, 2001 c. 25.
  • Failure to receive a tax notice does not excuse a taxpayer from the responsibility for payment of the taxes nor relieve the assessed owner of the liability for interest charges due to late payment.
  • Any payments received are applied to the outstanding penalty and interest balance first, then to the oldest outstanding tax balances.

Tax Certificates are available upon request for a fee of $100.00

Zoning Compliance Reports are available upon request for a fee of $100.00
