POTENTIAL FLOODING ALERT FOR DUFFERIN COUNTY THIS WEEKEND
(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to inform the public that the forecast for this weekend predicts heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for Dufferin County and the surrounding areas, with special attention to the Waldemar and Grand Valley areas. This weather pattern raises concerns about potential localized flooding, particularly in low-lying regions. The Dufferin OPP urges all residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety as this weather system approaches.
Key Information:
Expected Weather: Significant downpours, with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, are anticipated throughout the weekend.
Risk of Flooding: Localized flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas, near rivers, creeks, and other water bodies.
Impacted Areas: Communities in flood-prone zones are at heightened risk of experiencing flooding conditions.
What Residents Can Do:
Stay Updated: Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts throughout the weekend to stay informed of any changing conditions.
Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not drive or walk through flooded streets or water-covered areas. Flood waters can rise rapidly, making them unsafe.
Prepare for Emergencies: Ensure you have an emergency kit with essential items such as flashlights, batteries, medications, and important documents.
Maintain Drains and Gutters: Clear gutters, drains, and downspouts of debris to minimize the risk of water backup and reduce flooding around your property.
Plan Accordingly: If you live in a flood-prone area, it is essential to take proactive steps to protect your property. Local authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
The Dufferin OPP encourages all residents to remain vigilant and follow the guidance of local officials. By staying prepared and informed, we can ensure the safety of our community during this severe weather event.
