OPP MEDIA RELEASE - DUFFERIN COUNTY STORM DAMAGE RECOVERY AND SAFETY UPDATES
April 2 2025
(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - Following the recent ice storm, members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging residents to remain vigilant and prioritize safety. The storm has caused hazardous conditions across Dufferin County and surrounding areas, including downed power lines, fallen trees, and the potential for high winds that could cause additional damage. The use of generators or gas-powered equipment also poses a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if not used properly.
As recovery efforts continue, here are important updates and available support services for residents:

Refrigerated items are no longer safe for consumption, and freezer items may have thawed and spoiled. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) has resources available on their website and can assist with food safety communications in the area.
Debris Burning: Burning of debris is anticipated to be a concern in several municipalities. Local municipalities are advised to communicate the requirements and restrictions for debris burning, and the County will amplify these messages as necessary.
Rising Water Levels: Water levels in area watercourses are elevated and nearing full capacity. Flooding in low-lying areas is expected over the next 24 hours. Residents are advised to remain cautious and monitor conditions closely.
