Flood Messaging - GRCA and CVC April 1 2025

GRCA Flood Message #1 – Flood Warning
The weather system over the weekend brought 20 to 40 mm of rain across the Grand River watershed. The GRCA expects local water levels to remain high this week as watercourses react to runoff. While significant rainfall for the beginning of this week has ended, river flows will remain elevated as runoff from rain and any remaining snow melt drains through the river system.
A Flood Warning is being issued for West Montrose. River flows are expected to reach Flood Warning Zone 1 in West Montrose on Monday evening. Municipal Flood Coordinators in the Township of Woolwich have been advised to notify affected properties and monitor conditions. Residents are encouraged to refer to the guide on the GRCA’s website for information regarding flood warning zones.
The Flood Warning for West Montrose will remain in effect until 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety issued on Friday, March 28, remains in effect for all areas of the Grand River watershed due to the continued runoff.
River conditions and weather forecasts are being monitored closely and updates to this message will be issued as needed.
GRCA reservoirs
GRCA reservoirs are being operated to reduce the impact of downstream flooding.
Stay safe
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with local municipal flood response programs and be prepared for flooding due to the elevated risk at this time.
Banks adjacent to local waterways are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Any ice-covered bodies of water are considered unsafe. Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from all water bodies.

CVC Flood Outlook Statement April 1, 2025
Statement Details
Environment Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) are forecasting rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm; locally higher amounts are possible during thunderstorms, Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning.
There may be some minor flooding along the Credit River or its major tributaries, mainly in the northern and middle parts of the watershed. Near-saturated soil conditions and the anticipated significant rainfalls may cause some low-lying areas to experience higher flows and water levels throughout the watershed. As a result, local streams and rivers could become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges, and dams. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.
CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Outlook will be in effect through Thursday, April 3, 2025 or until further notice.
