Credit Valley Conservation - Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Watch #1 - 20250304
Date: March 4, 2025 Time: 5:30 PM
Statement Details
Credit Valley Conservation advises that Environment & Climate Change Canada is forecasting 15 to 25 mm of precipitation from Tuesday March 4 through to Wednesday, with the potential for higher localized amounts. There is also a risk of a thunderstorm Wednesday afternoon to evening. Rainfall combined with melting snow is expected and the frozen ground has reduced ability to absorb this runoff. Precipitation will be heavy at times and mild temperatures are expected tonight into Wednesday.
As a result, localized flooding in low-laying areas and water pooling on roads is possible. The main concern of the higher flows is the potential for the mobilization of river ice which may cause ice jams.
Local streams and rivers will also become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. People should be warned to stay away from all watercourses, especially children and pets.
CVC will continue to monitor the watercourse and the weather over the next two days. This Flood Watch will remain in effect to Thursday March 6, 2025, or until further notice.
