Water Safety Statement - March 22, 2023
CVC advises that Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s (MNRF) is forecasting a low-pressure weather system expecting to bring 5-10 mm of rainfall on Thursday, March 23rd . Another low-pressure weather system expecting to bring from 10 mm to 15 mm of rain and snow on Saturday, March 25th . Daytime air temperatures are expected to stay above the freezing mark reaching from 7°C to 11°C on Thursday, March 23rd , which will contribute to snowmelt.
No widespread flooding is expected for these upcoming weather systems. However, all rivers and creeks within CVC’s watershed will experience higher than normal flows and water levels due to precipitation and melting snow, combined with frozen ground conditions. Water pooling on the roads and in flood-prone and low-lying urban areas can be expected. As a result, local streams and rivers could become dangerous, especially around culverts, bridges, and dams. People are warned to stay away from all watercourses and to keep children and pets away.
CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Monday, March-27th 2023 or until further notice.
